How to Covert a Car from Gasoline to Electric...

Da Little Phoenix

Mike Parker, a retired manufacturing and quality control engineer from Turlock, CA, teaches a class twice a year on converting a gasoline-powered vehicle to an electric vehicle. Parker became a conversion electric car enthusiast as a result of taking a class from Mike Brown of Electro Automotive in the 1990s. In 2005, Parker taught a 10-day class in Turlock working with about eight students converting a VW Cabriolet from gas to electric. The conversion kit and car body was provided by Abran Quevedo, the auto shop instructor at the San Dieguito Academy High School auto shop, in Encinitas (north of San Diego), California.

Parker is currently booking students for the November, 2009 and March, 2010 class which will be held in Turlock, CA. The cost of the 10-day hands-on workshop is $300 per student. The class combines 2 hours of lecture in a classroom setting and 5 hours of hands-on in the auto shop. The class teaches the conversion formulation as outlines in the textbook Convert It, written by Mike Brown. This is a grass-roots effort by certain individuals to push the conversion electric car technology out into the public domain. The purpose of the class is to train local mechanics and interested parties how to convert a car from gas to electric power. This class qualifies for Professional Growth Units through the Cal State University, Stanislaus extended education program and Mike Parker.
